Serological screening is important in the diagnosis of syphilis.
Individuals infected with the spirochaete Treponema pallidum (T. pallidum) produce a number of different antibodies. Non specific cardiolipin antibodies are the target antibodies in routinely used VDRL and RPR diagnostic tests, while T. pallidum specific antibodies are detected in erythrocyte agglutination and Elisa tests.
Trepanostika TP recombinant uses the Elisa principle also used for amongst others AIDS and hepatitis diagnosis and enables the detection of both IgM and IgG antibodies to T. pallidum in an easily automatable format.
